| Goofin' off in the hospital. Keeping the spirits high. :) |
As I've mentioned before in the about me section, and throughout various blogs, I'm sure, charity work is a huge passion of mine. I love to find needs, and fill them to the best of my ability.
DISCLAIMER: WE DID IT! After raising the $5000 she needed to cover the financial qualifications, Kristy made it onto the Kidney Transplant list March 2012. THANK YOU to those that have helped. The battle is far from over, so please keep Kristy in your prayers are we try to find her perfect match kidney donor as soon as possible. Also, while the giveforward fundraiser has ended, you can still donate to any Wells Fargo location using the account number below. Once Kristy receives her transplant, she will be making many trips back and forth from Orlando to Gainesville, Florida. Gas is not at all cheap at this point in time, so she will continue to fundraise to help offset cost of travel.

I am currently involved in one of my biggest fundraisers yet. It's extremely important to me, as it's my family. My cousin Kristy is in end stage renal failure and needs a new kidney as soon as possible. But, you see, she's not even on the transplant list, yet.
I want to help change that. And I know I can. To even qualify to be put on the transplant list, she has to raise $5000 out of pocket just to prove that if she does get a new kidney, she'd be able to pay the 20% out of pocket expenses for her prescription medicines that first year. If she didn't have insurance, it'd be about $5000 PER MONTH for prescription medication that she will have to be on the rest of her life, once the transplant is complete. Imagine that, $5000 per month, $60,000 a year, on medication.... Though a transplant is the gift of life, like everything else, it comes with a price.
We will deal with the rest when we get to that point, but for now, she must raise the $5000 before February 29th 2012 to be considered to get on the transplant list. So, if you would, help us spread the word. The internet is an amazing place for networking.
Update: Kristy has raised the $5000! YAY! We are continuing to keep the fundraiser open through the deadline of February 29th to help raise extra funds for travel and other misc costs as she will be commuting from Orlando to Gainesville (in a truck) a few times a week once she finds a donor.

Our God is greater
Our God is stronger
God, You are higher than any other
Our God is healer
Awesome in power
Our God, our God
And if our God is for us
Then who could ever stop us
And if our God is with us
Then what could stand against
Our God is stronger
God, You are higher than any other
Our God is healer
Awesome in power
Our God, our God
And if our God is for us
Then who could ever stop us
And if our God is with us
Then what could stand against
- Our God Lyrics by Chris Tomlin

My husband is waiting for a kidney too. He's 27, been on dialysis for over 5 years. It's a tough road, but I'm praying for a kidney soon. I'll keep Kristy in my prayers :)
